About Us

National Association for the Blind Kerala is a non profit, Non-Governmental Organisation working for the rights and development of more than 22,000 persons with disabilities in Kerala, covering through its 5 district revenue offices in Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Palakkad and Wayanad.

Associated with the largest NGO for blind in the country NAB(India), NAB Kerala has been on the path of doing remarkable work in the state, helping the blind and the differently abled for a span of more than 52 years now. The organisation believes that all people with disabilities have the right to education, equal opportunity, employment, inclusion and quality of life, as their non-disabled counterparts.

Vision: Empower visually challenged population of our country, thus enabling them to lead a life of dignity and productivity.

Mission: Prevention of preventable and cure of curable visual impairment and providing socio-economic rehabilitation of the visually challenged in the mainstream, through education, training and employment.



Organisation of free Camps, school health programmes, awareness programmes and distribution of awareness materials.


Centres for guidance, counselling and awareness attached to all five of our offices in Kerala.                                                          


Advocacy activities which make people with disabilities aware of their basic rights and privileges.                                                                    


Rehabilitation for 231 people in Trivandrum, 2547 in Alappuzha, 2385 in Ernakulam, 805 in Palakkad and 117 in Wayanad.


A total of 92 children with multiple disabilities receive support under the Home Based Education Programme in
Trivandrum and Ernakulum.


The centre which helps to improve the residual vision of a person through optical and non optical aids supported by
visiting ophthalmologists.    


Implementation of the Integrated Education Programme for disabled children , providing skill training, organising workshops,
distributing special aids throughout Kerala.

Onto our Projects

Project Shakthi

Advocacy initiative covering 10 panchayats and having 214 resource persons taking part in activities transferring skills to the community to respond to the needs of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).

Computer Training for Blind

The Amway Opportunities Foundation set up NAB Centre of Excellence providing computer training to the visually challenged with the help of specialized hardware and softwares like Jaws and NVDA.

Project for Children with Deaf Blindness

Identifying around 250 families and 170 disabled in the rural region of Palod and providing them with medical and financial assistance in addition to awareness, counselling and training to the affected and their families as well.

Project CBR

Community based rehabilitation ; Identifying 865 PWDs (Persons with Disabilities) from Ottapalam Municipality, Vaniamkulam and Lakkidi Paroor Grama Panchayats and distributing distribute handicapped friendly equipments worth Rs. 7,80,000/-
